Abstract

The aim of the community service is, firstly, to provide provisions for local high school students in Bandar Lampung to be able to think and act more critically in regards to media exposure and the information needs they face in their future lives. Secondly, by providing adequate knowledge to the students hence they are motivated to continue their learning efforts to a higher level. A total of 60 participants from three high schools, namely SMAN 8 Bandar Lampung, SMAN 13 Bandar Lampung, and SMAN 14 Bandar Lampung were invited to attend this training. Questionnaires were given before and after the event was held. Based on the survey results, it was found that the participants experienced significant changes in knowledge about types of mass media (14.3%) and ability to do citations (13.5%) as well as knowledge about study programs at FISIP Unila (36.3%) and their desire to continue higher education at the Unila FISIP Campus (16.3%). Changing behavior in a positive direction shows that this activity has the ability to intervene in the level of participants' awareness regarding media literacy and campus life at FISIP Unila. The background of the participants who are still high school students also influences their ratio of continuing their education to a higher level.
